NO WAKE | ACTIVE
Due to the ongoing dry conditions and late-fall drought, Wildwood remains posted as 'No Wake' as we move into the winter months. These measures will remain in place until spring, when we are likely to receive significant rainfall to restore the lake's water levels. This continued restriction is essential to protect the lake’s water quality, shoreline, and surrounding structures during this period.
The following is a press release from Illinois.gov dated 11-25-2024:
SPRINGFIELD - Hydrilla, a highly invasive aquatic plant, has been discovered in DuPage County, marking the first known occurrence in that county and only the second known report in Illinois.
Hydrilla is considered one of the world's worst aquatic weeds. It can grow up to an inch per day and form dense mats of vegetation with negative impacts on boating, fishing, swimming, native aquatic wildlife, and property values. Control and eradication efforts can cost millions of dollars over many years.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), along with other state and local agencies, are working to track the spread of this aggressive invasive plant in waterways and determine the most appropriate containment and eradication strategies.
The public should be aware that this plant looks very similar to the native Elodea species, but there are a few key features that can be used to differentiate them. Hydrilla has whorls around the stem of more than three leaves with often visibly toothed edges.
The hydrilla found in DuPage County may have been unintentionally released from a homeowner's aquarium or a water garden. Although hydrilla is a federal noxious weed that is illegal to buy, sell, or transport and is banned in Illinois, it is often found in the aquarium and water garden trade.
People can do their part to limit the spread of this invasive plant and other aquatic invasive species by taking these actions:
• Remove all plants, animals and mud from any equipment that is used in waterbodies.
• Drain all water from boats and gear.
• Dry everything thoroughly with a towel or heat.
• Do not dispose of plants or animals from aquariums or water gardens in local waterbodies.
Anyone who suspects they have identified hydrilla in a waterbody should notify the IDNR Aquatic Nuisance Species Program at dnr.ans@illinois.gov. For additional information on hydrilla, please refer to the Great Lakes Hydrilla Collaborative.
Association dues ($915) must be paid in full by March 1, 2025.
Spring and warmer days are on the way! Look out for the Marina Slip application as we step into the New Year. Early April will also kick-off renewals for Non-reserved Storage, and by May 1st, Same Site campers must have the second installment ($500) in to the Association.
Lot Mowing
Rules and Regulations (Redbook) M. 3. (d):
"All lots must be mowed regularly and kept free of the unsightly growth of vegetation and noxious weeds. The Association may mow the lot and charge a fee to the lot owner.
The Association has two mowing deadlines to ensure lots within the Development meet the posted Redbook rule above. June 15th and September 15th are the deadlines, unless otherwise adjusted by the Board of Directors.
In addition to the businesses listed in the Sunbeam, Lake Wildwood Association will also take care of both mowing deadlines (vacant lots only) for $150.00 (due June 1). Contact the Office for details.
Yearly Dues
The yearly Association dues (March 1st deadline) does not include your property taxes. These are billed and paid through Marshall County.
Ice Buster Registration
Members utilizing ice-busters are asked to register with the Association Office. We will be keeping a master list of members using equipment and those registered will be supplied with a sign to post on their dock warning ice deterrent equipment is in use. Thank you for helping continue to make Lake Wildwood a safe and enjoyable community for all!
